Just about every one of our guests who visit from outside of Alaska are interested in seeing as much wildlife as they can fit in their schedule. And although the Kenai Peninsula has been settled for a hundred years, the diversity and abundance of wildlife remains much as it was decades ago. Our area is fortunate to have a small protected herd of Barren Grounds Caribou that numbers around 150 animals. And due to their roaming character and personalities this herd will break up into smaller summer groups and wander over a 100 square mile area. This young bull and cow caribou were "shot" with our camcorder just a short distance down our driveway as they grazed through our property.
Moose are also quite abundant on the Peninsula and this cow with her newborn calf are content to feed on fresh greenery just a few feet from our backyard boardwalk that goes to our riverbank. Both of these pictures were "grabbed" from the video tape that shot these animals last summer.
