Sparring Bears by B. Hutchinson

Occasionally some of our guests want to let it all hang out and tack on something extra special to their trip to remember Alaska by. Boy have we got just the thing. By special arrangement our guests may decide to add a remote flyout OVERNIGHT experience before returning to Tower Rock Lodge. This is a late summer opportunity during the month of August or later and capitalizes on exceptional silver salmon and Dolly Varden fishing in a remote stream in the Lake Clark National Park. Its a 30 minute bush flight from the Kenai area to the lodge where you will be part of a truly wilderness experience. The exceptional salmon runs that enter the local streams also attract a large number of brown bears who feed on them. And although Brooks Camp and McNeil River fishing bears are the most visible celebrities on Nature specials, those experiences can not compare to the world-class viewing opportunities found at this location. There are no reservations, nor lottery drawings, nor waiting lines or 20 mins. maximum view time. And world famous photographers have found this to be an idyllic setting to take some magnificent photos and video.

Most of our guests who choose to add this overnight flyout to their itinerary do so with the plans to fish for the silver salmon and Dolly Varden that are there in plentiful numbers. But more visitors now who enjoy eco-type tours are finding this trip to be just as rewarding if they choose to engage in the bear viewing activities. The lodge has trails and 4x4 ATVs for transportation to all the best locations for watching these bears interact with each other as well as fish for the arriving salmon.
