Tower Rock Lodge Staff
Name: Michael Tuhy

Roles and Responsibilities: Owner, fishing guide, guest development and informational architect (not sure what it means but I read it somewhere and it sounds good!), anything that I can do to be useful (which sadly, is not much).

How Mike Got Here: washed up on the beach 20 years ago and wouldn't leave.

Notable Quotable: "There are no problems only solutions."

Good Luck: Getting bit in a scratch bite, all the great people that I met as guests at the lodge, having the best-lodge-team in all of Alaska, # 7, swimming out of a rip-tide off of the Oregon coast, certain women, avoiding radar.

Bad Luck: Being caught by radar, certain women, not getting bit in a great bite, being in the right place at the wrong time

Likes: Solid hook-sets, a good bird dog, skiing, ethnic foods, a decent golf shot

Dislikes: Corruption, TV evangelists, things that don't start, pens out of ink, snags, a bad slice

Name: Mark Tuhy

Roles and Responsibilities: Guiding and dining! Trained in Paris, France for a few years then owned a couple of signature-type award winning restaurants on Hawaii (Big Island). Currently living in Thailand when not fishing Alaska... serving-up a cooking school in Northern Thailand.

How Mark Got Here: Very carefully

Notable Quotable: "Buy a man a fish and he will eat it; buy a man a good fishing rod and he'll miss work!"

Good Luck: Getting through US Customs, having a quad hook-up

Bad Luck: Not getting through US Customs

Likes: The short game and golf, too! Best score was on the beach. Favorite girlfriend = one with a boat, and mother-in-laws that miss fish.

Dislikes: Getting corked, de-tuned kwikfish, bad eggs, short rods with big mouths, mother-in-laws that catch the biggest fish.

Name: Melanie Kipp

Roles and Responsibilities: Lead slave (office manager), computer duties and graphic/website work, keeper of the calendar, gold panner and original fish printer, trainer of the beer-fetching dog.

How Melanie Got Here: Popped out of my Mom back in the Territory of Alaska.

Notable Quotable: "Ancora Imparo" ("I am still learning" - quote from Michelangelo, after he completed David and the Sistine Chapel).

Good Luck: Having the #1 Chow in obedience in the U.S. - TWICE! Three dogs being on TV, living in the GREAT state of Alaska, having wonderful family members living near me.

Bad Luck: Mornings. Sore fingers. Dogs rolling in rotten salmon. Van dying halfway to the Yukon Territory.

Likes: Dog training and playing with the pooches! Sunshine in the summer, northern lights in the winter. Puppy hugs. Mom and my siblings.

Dislikes: Vehicles that don't run consistently. Dog hair 4" deep on the carpet. Vacuuming and other housework. Winter nights that are 40 degrees below zero (or, as they're known in my household, "three dog nights").

Name: Rich "BigFish" North

Mike and Mark run a first class operation and even provided an Internet computer & fax so our sales team could stay in touch with the office. It was fantastic!

I caught a 44 lb. king salmon during the early run on 6 lb. test line. It took 62 minutes to land on a custom noodle rod and a knuckle-buster reel. An awesome experience.

We came from Japan but left feeling like we were part Alaskan.
